Prep Study

The aim of this study is to investigate a new treatment strategy for patients with difficult-to-treat epilepsy over a period of six months, hoping it will prove to be more effective. Specifically, we are examining whether the effect of Brivaracetam (an epilepsy medication) is enhanced when briefly combined with transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tNVS). tNVS is a special technique used to send signals to the brain.

We will evaluate the impact on the frequency of epileptic seizures, quality of life, and personal functioning, such as memory and thinking speed. Additionally, MRI research will be used to examine the influence of this treatment strategy on various biomarkers in the brain. The results of this new treatment strategy will be compared with the effects of the standard treatment with medication alone. We will also assess whether the effects persist after discontinuing the tNVS treatment.
