Working towards a green future
Kempenhaeghe stands for high-quality care. We continuously improve and innovate our healthcare services and expertise. Sustainability and environmental awareness are also part of this focus. Kempenhaeghe has signed the Green Deal Zorg 3.0. With this commitment, we aim to minimize our ecological footprint and contribute to a healthy future. We are undergoing the certification process through the Environmental Monitor Healthcare (Milieuthermometer Zorg), a certifiable environmental management system that promotes and ensures sustainable business operations. We aim to achieve a bronze certificate in 2024 and hope to progress to the silver level in 2025.
Our efforts are focused on sustainable property management, sustainable procurement, energy management, waste reduction, and other aspects of an environmentally friendly operation. With these efforts, we aim to contribute to better healthcare and a 'better world' for our patients, clients, and students. We believe that a sustainable healthcare environment goes hand in hand with the health and well-being of people. You can read about our steps and results so far in our Kempenhaeghe Sustainability Annual Report 2023.
In the coming period, we will continue to work towards a more sustainable business operation.
Energy management and CO2 reduction
To reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to the climate agreement, Kempenhaeghe has developed a CO2 reduction plan. The goal is to achieve a 55% reduction in CO2 emissions per square meter by 2030. Some concrete actions in this regard include:
- Green electricity: We use sustainable electricity from Dutch sources, such as wind and solar energy.
- Energy saving: By using energy-efficient lighting and smart heating systems, we ensure more efficient energy consumption.
Waste management and circular economy
We aim for a circular business operation, with less waste and more recycling:
- Waste prevention plan: We focus on separating waste at the source and encourage the reuse of materials.
- Reusable products: We focus on reusing medical equipment, furniture, and other materials wherever possible.
- Less residual waste: Our ambition is to reduce residual waste by at least 25% by 2026.
Sustainable procurement
Our procurement policy focuses on purchasing products with a low environmental impact:
- Sustainable food: We allocate at least 10% of our food budget to organic and environmentally friendly products.
- Green procurement criteria: We collaborate with suppliers who meet strict sustainability requirements, and we strive for an increasingly sustainable range of medical and facility products.
Mobility and green transportation options
We encourage sustainable mobility for both employees and visitors:
- Electric charging points: We have charging points for electric vehicles at our locations.
- Bike promotion: We encourage our employees to make use of bike and carpool initiatives.
