How can we help your child?

When your child stagnates at school or in his development as a result of a neurological disability, a medical specialist from a general or academic hospital can refer your child to the Center for Neurological Learning and Development Disabilities Kempenhaeghe.

You will be referred if your child has been seen in the second line and if you or the specialist consider bringing in the specialist and unique expertise of the Center for Neurological Learning and Development Disabilities in the field of brains, learning and development to be of added value for your child’s future prospects.

You or your doctor will send the letter of referral to our main location in Heeze. After receipt, we will schedule a consult and you will receive an invitation, sometimes in combination with a questionnaire. Depending on the request, the appointment will take place in our location in Heeze or Oosterhout.

When can we help your child?

You want your child to be seen as quickly as possible. We will do anything possible to realize this. Normally, you will receive an invitation some eight weeks after receipt of the referral letter. The date and time you are expected are found in this invitation.

Even though we do our utmost, it may take longer until your first appointment. Each month, Kempenhaeghe publishes an overview of the actual average waiting times.

Waiting times

Do you feel that your child has to wait too long to receive care? Your health care insurer might help. More information can be found here (in Dutch only).

Will care be reimbursed?

The Health Care Insurance Board (CVZ) has classified the activities of the Center for Neurological Learning and Development Disabilities and medical-specialist care that is part of the basic health insurance package for children and youths up to 18 years of age. However, we advise that you, prior to the start of your treatment, always check with your health insurer if the treatment is reimbursed.

Depending on the insurance conditions you may have to pay (part of) the treatment yourself. When you obtain this information by phone, always ask for a written confirmation. Don’t forget to take into account your deductible. You may also have to advance part of the costs, after which your insurer will reimburse you at a later time.

What happens during a visit to the outpatient clinic?

The pediatric neurologist and the clinical neuro-psychologist join forces to arrive at a solid diagnosis of your child’s learning and development problems.

They are present during the first consult in the outpatient clinic and - together - listen to your explanation of your child’s problems. They will also speak with your child and often conduct non-burdensome pediatric neurologic examinations.
