In the sheltered yet vibrant new neighborhood of Kloostervelden, adult clients live. Most of them have multiple disabilities and sometimes exhibit challenging behaviors. Some have lived here for several decades on what was originally an institutional site.
Their "new neighbors" are families, couples, or individuals who appreciate the beautiful neighborhood in the green surroundings and are open to simple everyday encounters with our residents. Kempenhaeghe's clients see children playing in the neighborhood or neighbors walking their dogs. The neighborhood is located in the outskirts of Sterksel, about three kilometers from Kempenhaeghe's main location in Heeze.
Care homes
Spread throughout the neighborhood, about 175 of our residents live in care clusters. The care homes were built in 2015 and 2016 and are fully equipped. The options—within a care cluster—vary from living in a studio or apartment to living in shared housing groups.
Amenities
Kloostervelden has the appearance of a small village. The heart of the neighborhood is formed by the renovated Providentia Monastery and the adjacent Dokter Ruttenpark. The neighborhood has amenities such as a bistro/restaurant, a shop with gift items, and an art gallery, all of which are partially managed by our residents. There is also a chapel, and sports and recreational facilities. The neighborhood also offers day activities for our residents and a childcare center.
A home for everyone
Kloostervelden in Sterksel was awarded the Brabantse Stijlprijs 2021. This prize was organized by the province of North Brabant to highlight exceptional initiatives in the region. In 2021, the award focused on new and original housing forms that are slightly different and cater to the needs of the present. The theme was "A home for everyone." The jury found that Kloostervelden fit this theme due to the innovative way in which heritage was preserved while bringing society inside and connecting residents with each other and the village.
