Ohtahara Syndrome
Ohtahara syndrome is a severe and very rare epilepsy syndrome that occurs in very young children and leads to significant developmental delay. The children experience seizures during which they stiffen and turn blue. Often, many seizures occur in succession. This syndrome typically manifests between 0 and 3 months of age. The EEG shows very abnormal patterns. For children with this syndrome, epilepsy medication often proves ineffective.

At a specialized epilepsy center such as Kempenhaeghe, there is unique expertise and experience in helping children with Ohtahara syndrome.
