Children with neurological conditions may experience not only physical problems but also learning and developmental issues. In our center, we investigate both their learning problems and their learning potential.
We bring together expertise from pediatric neurology, clinical neuropsychology, and neurodidactics. If necessary, we complement this knowledge with expertise from other fields such as (special) pedagogy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, or social work. We collaborate with external partners from university hospitals specializing in neurological disorders. We also involve your child's doctor in the process. This way, we get a comprehensive understanding of what your child is capable of. With your consent, we can also coordinate with your child's school during the process.
At the Center for Neurological Learning and Developmental Disorders, experts from multiple disciplines are involved in your child's care. This multidisciplinary team of specialists provides the care. The expertise of the (pediatric) neurologist and clinical neuropsychologist/psychologist is central. A child and adolescent psychiatrist may be consulted to address behavioral issues related to the neurological condition.
The team may be expanded, if needed, to include a nurse specialist, social worker, and a pedagogical (home) guide. For transfer to schools, we can enlist the help of the Ambulatory Support Service from our educational center, De Berkenschutse.
If necessary, the team also collaborates with other institutions such as mental health care (GGZ), Child Protection Services (Bureau Jeugdzorg), children's rehabilitation centers, and/or schools and educational institutions.
The final responsibility for the diagnosis and treatment lies with the (pediatric) neurologist and the clinical neuropsychologist/psychologist. The medical responsibility rests with the (pediatric) neurologist.
