Easily Readable Sleep Therapy
A good night’s sleep is essential for health. Insomnia has a significant negative impact on quality of life and mental well-being. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is the evidence-based first-line treatment for chronic insomnia. This treatment has been shown to be effective for 70-80% of long-term insomniacs. It breaks the vicious cycle of poor sleep and addresses various factors that contribute to both acute and chronic insomnia.
Especially for individuals with severe psychiatric disorders (EPA) or mild intellectual disabilities, an easily readable CBT-I training module was developed: ‘Learn to Sleep Better’. The CBT-I module provides healthcare professionals trained in cognitive behavioral therapy with a tool to help patients earlier and more effectively. The module is freely accessible for professionals with knowledge of cognitive behavioral therapy.
This training module also includes a session on medication use. In practice, many patients with EPA take medication to sleep better. The session aligns with the other sessions and must be delivered by a professional with knowledge of psychopharmacology.
Positive Reactions
The feedback from group training has been positive. Patients report being pleasantly surprised by the simplicity of the training and the results achieved. One patient said, “I wish I had done this years ago.” Another stated, “I learned new things, and by applying them, I started sleeping better. I never thought that sleeping less in bed could actually help improve sleep.”
