In order to stimulate scientific research on epilepsy and sleep and wake disorders, the Scientific Committee at Kempenhaeghe invited young researchers to present their research projects.
Authors from various countries submitted abstracts. The committee accepted seventeen abstracts to be presented at the 12th annual international clinical symposium ‘Epilepsy & Sleep update@kempenhaeghe.nl’ in Heeze, The Netherlands, on March 25th and March 26 th 2010.

Behandeling van langdurige slapeloosheid

De auteurs dr. Ingrid Verbeek, slaapdeskundige en drs. Merijn van de Laar, psycholoog, zijn beiden verbonden aan het insomnieteam van Kempenhaeghe.
Behandeling van langdurige slapeloosheid is een protocol voor hulpverleners in de geestelijke gezondheidszorg die cliënten met langdurige slapeloosheid behandelen.
In dit boek voor therapeuten (incl. dvd met behandelsessies) wordt slapeloosheid niet alleen als symptoom gezien van bijvoorbeeld een onderliggende depressie of angststoornis, maar ook als een apart probleem dat behandeling verdient. Het protocol is gebaseerd op CGT-I (cognitieve gedragstherapie bij insomnie).

On 25 and 26 March the 12th annual international clinical symposium Kempenhaeghe had taken place in Heeze, The Netherlands.
This year the central theme of the symposium was ‘long term consequences of epilepsy and sleep disorders’. In main sessions, in workshops and parallel sessions, the impact of chronic conditions and long-term effects of epilepsy and sleep were discussed.
The symposium also commemorated that the Dutch Epilepsy Fund and the Research School ‘Mental Health and Neurosciences’ of the Maastricht University Medical Centre has awarded the Kempenhaeghe/MUMC research program of ‘chronic epilepsy’.
A special session on neurological based learning difficulties, did highlight the start of a new medical program in Kempenhaeghe. A distinguished national and international faculty guarantees a high quality of presentations and content covering best clinical practice, results of the latest scientific research and illustrative cases.
