Kempenhaeghe has a separate Research & Development sector. The mainly multi-disciplinary research groups form the core of the sector. These research groups concentrate on research programmes. The multi-disciplinary research groups increase the coherence in research initiatives and provide options for efficiency improvement of research. The research groups are organised along seven research lines.

The Research & Development sector is organised through the Research & Development Committee, chaired by Prof Dr P.A.J.M. Boon. In this committee, in addition to the professors working at Kempenhaeghe, the co-ordinators of the research groups are represented as well.

Co-operation is a key factor for successful innovation in the area of diagnostics and treatment. In this light, Kempenhaeghe has invested in the past few years in co-operation with external partners, nationally and internationally, who offer complementary knowledge and expertise. This network-building process will be continued in the years to come.

Kempenhaeghe has installed an external International Scientific Advisory Council to support this policy. The Advisory Council has an advisory role in the areas of focus, meaning and priority of future research programmes within the context of international developments.
