Anti-epileptics
In general neurologic practice most of the epilepsy patients become free of seizures with anti-epileptics. Often this is accomplished with the first or second medicine chosen.
Polytherapy
For a minority of the patients not responding to monotherapy a (poly) pharmaceutical treatment may be the solution. To find the right (combination of) medication in an optimal dose with as little as possible side effects is a complex trajectory. Kempenhaeghe has state-of-the-art expertise in this area and is familiar with all available anti-epileptics.
Depending on the complexity administering - new - medication is done on an outpatient basis (a few visits) or in the clinic (admission of an average of six weeks). Kempenhaeghe has its own clinical-chemical laboratory where by means of determining values of concentration in the blood the effectiveness and efficiency of the anti-epileptics are assessed. When an optimal medication adjustment has been reached and any additional problems allow it and the patient agrees, Kempenhaeghe will refer the patient back.
