Care for serious sleep disturbances

On estimate, five to seven percent of people in the Netherlands suffer from a chronic sleep problem. Sometimes, the problem is so complex that extra examination and/or treatment in a specialised center for sleep medicine is required. Kempenhaeghe provides that care. Fortunately for most children and adults with sleep problems, treatment by the family doctor and sometimes by a specialist in a general hospital will suffice.

The Kempenhaeghe Center for Sleep Medicine employs health care workers of several professional specialties. They collaborate in so-called multidisciplinary teams. Together, they determine the best possible diagnosis and therapy for a patient's sleep disorder. The chief therapist has the final responsibility for the therapy. Typically, this is a neurologist or lung specialist and sometimes a psychiatrist or behavioural scientist.
