Training to be an epileptologist
The epileptology training at Kempenhaeghe is an optional part of the neurology training recognized by the Medisch Specialisten Registratie Commissie (MRSC – medical specialist registration committee). The optional epileptology training includes an intensive traineeship of six months. The traineeship consists of activities in the clinic and outpatient clinic. These activities include (differential) diagnostics of seizures, initiation of pharmaceutical or non-pharmaceutical anti-epileptic treatment, investigation and/or treatment of adverse effects of the therapy prescribed, additional psychosocial aspects, and learning and behavioural problems. The patient population consists of children, adolescents, (young) adults, elderly, people with and without physical and/or mental handicaps. Assistant physicians at Kempenhaeghe work day shifts under direct supervision of members of the neurology staff.
Independent participation in activities at the clinic and outpatient clinic as well as participation in various forms of consultations will yield important learning situations. Such consultations may be case discussions, neuroradiology, neurophysiology and epilepsy surgery consultations, research meetings, guideline discussions and lecture meetings. The assistant physician participates substantially in the latter two by contributing to the evaluation of medical guidelines and protocols, and by giving at least one lecture. Furthermore, there are possibilities for additional attention to child epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology, neurologic aspects of sleep/wake disorders, and scientific research, depending on the assistant physician's interest. The assistant physician is a member of the training committee for the duration of his/her traineeship.
The training at Kempenhaeghe is primarily an optional traineeship for assistant physicians who have completed the basic neurology training. The training is accessible for physicians from both general training hospitals and psychiatric training hospitals. The assistants will be appointed on the basis of secondment. Payment will be in accordance with the CAO-ziekenhuizen (collective labour agreement for hospitals).

Room for professionals
In the coming years Kempenhaeghe (575 beds, 1050 employees) will see expansion and retirement of staff and therefore has room for several professionals. Kempenhaeghe is ambitious, both in patient care and scientific research.
As a centre specialized in epileptology and sleep medicine, Kempenhaeghe helps patients with complicated, weighty care needs. We aim to investigate these needs through high-quality diagnostic tests as well as personal attention for our patients, resulting in custom-made, sometimes less well-known treatment options and psychosocial counselling, if needed. This profundity in work contents and patient contacts are attractive aspects of working at Kempenhaeghe.
We would be pleased to be contacted by neurologists, clinical neurophysiologists, neurology trainees and assistant physicians. We are pleased to invite serious candidates with an interest or orienting in our area of expertise for an introduction to Kempenhaeghe without obligations. We would like to show you our work.
